Ministry warns UAE public about some herbal medicines

Dubai: The Ministry of Health has warned against using herbal medicines which contain chemicals such sildenafil and other substances not declared by leaflets as ingredients.

The ministry cautioned on Friday that such products pose serious dangers to the health of individuals and violate the terms and pharmaceutical safety standards.

Dr Ameen Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practices and Licensing at the ministry, said sildenafil was detected in all samples of Blue Caviarq Combo Pack Sachets, Dragon Tablets, ViaGrow Capsule and Prox Cram, while lidocain (local analgesic) was detected in Prox Cram and Caviarq only. Sildenafil is the active ingredient used in erectile dysfunction medicines.

The detected substances were not mentioned in the leaflets of the examined products.

The Ministry’s Pharmaceutical Inspection Department requested disclosure of the contents of these products arriving to the UAE by mail.

It urged the public not to bring in any such medications from abroad for personal use without having the information leaflets or prescriptions accredited inside or outside the UAE.
